choosing the right bait

I am writing this guide to help our new comers find the right bait.
One thing I see online a lot is guides set to certain areas of Australia and they are very useful.
One thing to note though is climate and water temperature play a big part.
what someone does in QLD certain times of year is different to ACT etc and I would encourage you to look up a facebook page or guide for your area, it's also good to chase up on your local fishing regulations and make sure you are in line with local laws.
Carp are most active when the water temperature, (not the air temperature) is between 20-25 degrees.
In hotter climates the carp are more active through out the year and may not represent your local conditions.
On the note of Coarse fishing, which has some great rigs and great setups, is the bait used in The UK is dramatically different to that of Australia.
Carp in the UK are often fished from private lakes, are used to being fed boillies all the time.
The main thing I see Coarse fisherman using is very simple baits in Australia, such as compressed bread and corn or very simple boillie recipes that don't stand out.
Carp In Canberra aren't used to being fed and if you lob out a bright coloured, say red or purple boillie etc.
Chances are the carp isn't going to know it's food and will probably be scared off by the bright colors.
ultimately if you a fishing in winter it's good to have an arsenal of baits when going out fishing, such as corn, bread, worms, or doughbaits and finding out what they are biting on.
During the warmer months I find you can't go past corn.
Hope this helps.
